Rudi Spring
Rudi Spring wurde 1962 in Lindau am Bodensee geboren. Seine wichtigsten
Lehrer waren Alfred Kuppelmayer, der ihn von 1973 bis 1977
in Klavier, Musiktheorie und Komposition unterrichtete, und
Karl-Hermann Mrongovius, bei dem er 1981 bis 1986
Klavier an der Musikhochschule München studierte. Nach
abgeschlossenen Studiengängen in Komposition und Klavier
widmete sich Rudi Spring intensiv dem Dirigieren und
leitete von 1985 bis 1990 das Schumann-Orchester München.
Er erhielt 1988 den Bayerischen Staatlichen Förderpreis für
Junge Künstler und war von 1987-1996 als Lehrbeauftragter
an der Münchner Musikhochschule tätig, in den Fachgebieten
Korrepetition, Gehörbildung, Analyse und Liedgestaltung.
Prägende Kammermusikerfahrungen verdankt er der
Zusammenarbeit mit Heinrich Schiff, Violoncello
(1980-83), Erich Hoebarth, Violine (seit 1984), Harlolf
Schlichtig, Viola sowie Wolfgang Meyer, Klarinette (beide
seit 1991). In allen Fällen schrieb Spring mehrere Werke
für die genannten Interpreten, welche sie oft in
gemeinsamen Konzerten mit dem Pianisten/Komponisten aufführten.
1994 gründete er, in ebendieser Funktion, zusammen mit
Marianne Kirch (Hackbrett und Gesang) und Maria Reiter
(Akkordeon) das Trio "COSI FAN TANGO", welches 1995 den 2.
Preis beim Internationalen Kammermusikwettbewerb Düsseldorf
erhielt und 1996 seine erste CD veröffentlichte.
Als Liedpianist pflegt er ein umfangreiches Repertoire.
Das solistische Spektrum reicht von reinen Soloabenden (z.B.
1993 in Helsinki ein Mozart-Sibelius-Programm) über
Solistenkonzerte (z.B. 1995 mit dem Ensemble Oriol in
Chemnitz) bis zu literarisch-musikalischen
Konzeptprogrammen (z.B. seit 1994 mit dem Schauspieler Gerd
Lohmeyer: Mozartbriefe und -klaviermusik.)
Er komponierte - in den letzten Jahren häufig durch
Aufträge angeregt - bislang vor allem Kammermusik und
Lieder, gelegentlich Orchester- und Chormusik.
Zahlreiche Rundfunkaufnahmen, vor allem bei ORF/Dornbirn
und BR/München, geben davon Zeugnis.
Rudi Spring was born in Lindau on Lake Constance in 1962. His most
important teachers were Alfred Kuppelmayer, with whom he
studied piano, music theory, and composition from 1973 to
1977, and Karl-Hermann Mrongovius, with whom he studied
piano at the Munich Music Academy from 1981 to 1986. After
receiving his diploma in composition and piano, Rudi Spring
concentrated on conducting, and led the Schumann Orchestra
in Munich from 1985 to 1990.
In 1988 he was recipient of the Bavarian State Scholarship
for Young Artists; from 1987 to 1996 he held a teaching
position at the Munich Academy, giving courses in song
interpretation and coaching, ear training, and analysis.
His formative experiences in chamber music derived from his
work with the cellist Heinrich Schiff (1980-83), the
violinist Erich Hoebarth (since 1984), the violist Harlolf
Schlichtig and the clarinetist Wolfgang Meyer (both since
1991). Spring composed works for all of the above
interpreters, pieces which were often performed at concerts
with the composer at the keyboard.
In that same function he founded the trio "COSI FAN TANGO"
in 1994 together with Marianne Kirch (dulcimer and vocals)
and Maria Reietr (accordeon). In 1995 the trio won second
prize at the International Chamber Music Competition in
Düsseldorf, and their first CD came out in 1996.
Rudi Spring has a wide repertoire as vocal recital accompanist.
As a soloist his activities range from piano recitals (such
as his Mozart/Sibelius program in Helsinki in 1993) to
concerts (such as soloist with the Oriol Ensemble in
Chemnitz in 1995) and musical/literary evenings (such as
Mozart's piano works combined with readings from Mozart's
letters by the actor Gerd Lohmeyer, from 1994 on).
His compositions, in recent years often to outcome of
commissions, have mainly been in the realm of songs and
chamber music, but also include several orchestral and
choral works.
A number of broadcast recordings have been produced, mainly
by Austrian Radio in Dornbirn and Bavarian Radio in Munich.
